Metal detectors are able to pick up any magnetic or steel underneath the ground. You can use for different reasons but the advantages and disadvantages are almost the same. The iron which is beneath the soil which is too deep beyond the radar of the unit may be a mulling effect on the user. Gold which is presumably the focus of the user's search may have been buried multiple thick layers of wind-swept sand and soil. Usually when attempting to find something precious and rare, the search would be tiring and long. Be prepared to find absolutely nothing at all after hours or even days of glazing about your newly bought unit.

 

However, moisture is another helpful element in finding for gold. Metal detectors usually have a higher chance of locating iron when the ground or matter is dampened. The user could somehow water the area if he or she believes that there is a mine of gold in a selective area.

 

The higher the salt contents of the soil, the easier to boost up chances of finding iron or gold in it. There are also other factors such as the size of the nugget of gold or iron in search. Certain units can only discover larger composition of iron in the soil. This will also depend on the coil of the unit. The bigger the coil, the better the radar, but they become a little bit weighty.  However a smaller coil's radar is able to pick up the tiny trinkets of gold.

 

Make sure the batteries are fully charged and pre-packed a couple of additional batteries in case you are planning to bring your unit along on a trip.
